"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle." It's somewhat frustrating that here, in this SEVENTH (!!!) year of updating on Christmas eve, I do not feel so literally, emotionally, or whatever-ally inspired as in the past; however, borrowing from some other 'greats' (hey, come on, it's 'Lexi the Great', after 'Leroy the Great'! ha) will do the job nicely.
The biggest thing for me, I guess, is Plato's. It's not just about me, even though this site is 'ALL ABOUT ME LXFOREVER.COM!', but life in general...to 'be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle', a lesson and line I think we could all borrow from this year and in the year to come. Locally, nationally, and worldwide, there's been a lot of division - elections, wars, religion, and chaos - and it's not as much depressing as it is a sign. A sign of what you might ask? Well, not being a wise all knowing prophet as some holier than myself, I really have no idea, but I know that for me, it's a sign that I do have to be kind, let bygones be bygones, and treat each person with peace, as I have no idea what their life may be like. 'You have no idea unless you're in it,' we liked to say. And that's okay. But all it takes is a little kindness for me to be better, and maybe with one small step we can see it extend across land, sea, and desert, and into the future.
"A purpose of human life, no matter who is controlling it, is to love whoever is around to be loved." It's funny too that I should quote Mr. Vonnegut and that he should say something akin to this, as generally he speaks as though man and woman are fools, merely animals conscious of being alive (a view I often find myself sharing, by the way). I guess what it shows to me is that despite his cynicism, good ol' Kurt has a little faith...that even though we are gorillas with fur-less skin when it gets down to it, the thing we are most capable of and most destined for is to love. And in case you haven't noticed, that's a big thing for me at Christmas - love. It's a big deal in general, actually (ha! like I'm some all knowing person or whatever...just ignore me)...but so is my cynicism, and KV reminds me to let it go once in awhile.
(As an aside, we saw Doug Pahl at church, as well as the Gronemuses, and it's always nice to see people from the past. 'I met him at the candy store...!!!')
And the Pumpkins? I just know that I am really lucky in many ways, but most importantly with the people I love...so, 'let me give the world to you, my love(s)!'
Merry Christmas, and good night!!
