"I'm only happy when it rains..."–Garbage!!!
Another update about Garbage
time 1:10 pm feeling dirty, haha
wearing pjs...this seems to be a common theme reading
just finished BIG BAD WOLF from my mom ready for cleaning this apt! next clean
The Garbage concert was SO awesome!!! I couldn't have asked for a better concert, it's like Shirley came to me and asked exactly what I wanted her/them to play...it was amazing!! Oh my gosh I am so happy.
So we got there early because we wanted to get a good spot. First of all it was the first time I saw a show at First Ave so that was really sweet, since the last time Garbage came I was too young to go there (we had to go to Milwaukee at the Eagle's Ballroom). First Ave is so cool!! It's super intimate but still fits so many people. Plus it has a history man. That was sweet. Shirley Manson spoke a little bit about their very first show being at First Ave in 1995 ("it's our 10 year anniversary!"). They were so excited because they saw all these people there. "We're fuckin' famous!" she remembered saying. Then they realized everyone was there for someone else, and that they were playing in the side room. Ha!
Now of course they rock and their show rocked. We found a spot on the ledge a bit aways from the stage because last time at Eagle's Ballroom it was all level ground and I couldn't see anything! So this way I had an excellent view of the stage. We were also by railings so that was good, although as Jeff realized later, the crowd that attends Garbage concerts is DEFINITELY not rowdy, or even young. A lot of people in their 30s and 40s...weird huh. But pretty cool actually.
The opening act, the Dead 60s, was actually pretty cool too, they had this neat song in the middle that was so heavy hitting and had a cowbell! Plus they looked like they were having a great time. Then came the waiting. First of all though can I just say if you are going to go to a concert, please at least have some INTEREST in the band, because they were so many people who kept moving around during the show! WTF?! Seriously, they are PLAYING, don't you just want to STAY IN ONE SPOT?! Weirdos! They kept trying to move us around, to be by the railing, but hello. We got there early for a reason! Hello. Anyway.
So the waiting. Then suddenly you could hear the intro song, Johnny Cash's "Hurt". I couldn't believe they were going to take the stage!! It all went dark and then there they were, sparkling red drums and all. Shirley had red hair and a striped black and white dress on. She looked super good and very fit. At this point I thought I was going to die, because they opened with "Queer". !!! I had some idea of what they were going to play based on earlier setlists but you can never be too sure. "The queerest of the queer..."
They launched right into "Bad Boyfriend" from the newest CD and that was AWESOME. Basically they played every song I wanted them to - the only thing I wanted other than what they did was "Temptation Waits" from 2.0 but they will NEVER do that, just because it's not as popular. But from their first CD they did Queer, Supervixen, Vow, Stupid Girl (YAY!!! one of my faves!!!) and Only Happy When it Rains (!!!!), from 2.0 they did Hammer in my Head (YAY!!) AND Pushit (she is so awesome performing this), When I Grow Up, AND I Think I'm Paranoid, god what a great song. Then from Bleed Like Me, the new one, they played Bad Boyfriend, Sex is Not The Enemy (which was really cool because they kept flashing these random conflicting words in the background, very interesting)(also there were really cool lights in the background on stage the whole time), Bleed Like Me "for Garbage virgins" (said in a heavy Scottish accent of course) and they closed with Why Do You Love Me. !! That was SO cool too, although the crowd wasn't that into it, huh. Anyway. I just kept jumping up and down at every song they played because I couldn't believe they were playing it I was so happy! Haha I'm a dork, but seriously.
So then they left, we cheered like crazy, and of course they then came back for the encore. They opened with METAL HEART from the new CD, I LOVE that song!!, then did Run Baby Run which Jeff is a big fan of, and then I thought they would do Cherry Lips from beautifulgarbage but INSTEAD they did Right Between The Eyes. !!! My OTHER fave from Bleed Like Me!! Wow. See what I mean?? They did exactly what I wanted. It was incredible. SO cool to see them up there live!!!
What a great concert. I hope they never break up. She was so cute and I loved when she jumped up and down. The guys looked cool too. I hope this is the tour that makes them a bit more, ah, prolific or something. WHATEVER. Wow, I was so happy.
We thought it was weird that they didn't play anything from beautifulgarbage but that CD was kind of a bust anyway. I mean, I liked it of course but it just didn't do well. Oh well.
ANYWAY, all in all a great, great show!! And now I am DONE with the old apt, here in this one, and going to go clean. I should say more but I gotta get going. HURRAH FOR GARBAGE!!!!
