"I'm gonna break something I'm gonna dance I'm gonna..."---Alyssa, 6/28/03, during Catch Phrase

"I know! Proposing!"---me, 6/28/03, to Kristin, during Catch Phrase while she tried to get us to understand the word 'grovel'...don't worry, not everything I believe of marriage is as warped as that seems

"for all the things you're losing / you might as well resign yourself to try and make a change / I'm going down to Hollywood / they're gonna make a movie from the things that they find crawling around my brain / I wish I was a girl / so that you could believe me / and I could shake this static every time I try to sleep / I wish for all the world / that I could say 'Hey, Elizabeth, you know I'm doing all right these days'..."---Counting Crows

Just Because I'm Lazy

time 9:30 pm feeling stupidly sentimental reading ? wearing halter, shorts music Counting Crows ready for bedtime next sleep...eventually

I used to hate Counting Crows. Okay, not hate, I even bought a CD. But after I had listened to it for about a month, I could just not stand to hear it anymore; I'd spent that music on the start of my college career, and as we all remember by now, that was a horrible, horrible time. So with those notes came a sinking association that I just could not handle.

Somehow now though I have rediscovered This Desert Life and am enjoying it greatly. I cannot believe I overcame this problem, music ties me very strongly to whatever period in my life which I associate it with and it's hard to shake...so maybe now I have learned the secret.

Enough! As I said, I am feeling stupidly, strangely sentimental. My favorite month begins tomorrow, the heat and happiness about to bathe me in July glory, and Thursday Jenny arrives, Friday is the Fourth of July (duh), and Saturday we go up north for the weekend, so I shouldn't be so mindful. Summer isn't for meaning! WTF with that man?! But I won't complain, because it (being stupidly sentimental) is making me happy anyway.

So last weekend was the ever-famous R&B celebration! I know I haven't updated in forever so I should get my head on straight. Well, the weekend before last was NATIONALS in Milwaukee, and Diana flew all the way here from Seattle for it!! Missy, D and I went to all artistic events but men's finals and men's juniors, and let me tell you, it was awesome. THOUGH not quite as cool as Trials I must admit, I will have to return to Trials without a doubt. AND duh it was of course so fun to see Diana dearest, I will miss her til Septiembre! Sadness. Ashley kicked ass, as did Annia, and it was fantastic to see the older woman clean it up (she's 25). And of course I do support Tasha so it was good to see her back in action (not so much Kupets though, she's boring to me). We also saw Carly and Lindsey Vanden Eykel outside of the arena and holy shit, are they small. LVE is frickin' *17*, she is TINY!!! Scariness. But it was cool though. My favorite part, though, was definitely seeing juniors. They are so cute! They are so good! They stole my heart! I am way more excited now about the 2008 team than the 2004 one, which is stupid, because by 2008 all those girls will be burned out or whatever, but still! So cute!! I had been a Nastia Liukin fan for awhile, but Bianca Flohr and Shayla Worley also impressed with their clean lines and graceful presence, and DUH I love Grace Taylor, the cutest Andreea lookalike EVER, and then I had to add London Phillips and another one (suddenly can't remember her name) to my list because they were just plain COOL. Alright I am babbling about juniors, I need a life :).

So back to last weekend. My friends from MN came down to visit, it is always a highlight to my summer to see them! I miss them now though...things aren't the same without my roommates! I did promise to go up there and visit July 18 or whatever so that should help...even if Misty and Sarah Ke leave this week for Australia and NZ, respectively...wow.

Susan, Kristin, Scott, John, and Alyssa all made it, and Misty was there too eventually which was very fun. I guess Sarah Ko made it to the Cities that weekend, alas, everyone was visiting me; according to Susan, Peter termed it this way:
"If Lexi can't see Sarah Komomua, she's going to make sure no one else can!"
OK, this is not true, but funny nonetheless. Damn straight, I have not seen that girl since December! Moving on...

We had some funny conversations Friday, including more discussion of Alyssa's drum-beating wedding and the necessity to duct tape my and Alyssa's mouth at any wedding to avoid embarassment (hah), and somehow it came into it that I will have a death skull garter at my wedding (just to reiterate, one of the True Ten's favorite discussions is making up our weddings; so far mine has included only that it must be planned in a month or less and have a potluck). DEATH SKULL! YEAH! haha that doesn't make sense, yet it amuses me. "I can't tie my shoes Ma, they're made of bike chains!" ---Scott

Saturday after the rain finally left we did Madison things (including Farmer's Market) and late afternoon made it out to the park. It was an AWESOME show, just amazing, definitely the best ever, and despite the drunk assholes next to us it went so well. I am so honored that my friends come down every year! It is great. Matt was in a great mood too, enjoying working and all, so I was very happy about that. He worked hard and it showed. And Terry, the magical weatherman who makes it clear up for his event! Wow. AND who duh, makes the event. Thanks Ter!

My aunt and uncle were there too, with cousin Matt and their exchange student William, so that was nice. William "Pierre" was a bit snooty but nice enough, and of course I love seeing Barb and Glenn. And my parents, it was great that they made it too! Plus of course a whole host of others whom I was happy to see.

Afterwards Kristin, the 'relationship guru' (because she is a family social science major I call her that), asked us what our top three desired qualities in a mate were. (Note that for some reason I am the 'love guru' according to Alyssa, but who knows where THAT came from..."Lexi, you are the LOVE GURU!" ---Alyssa, 2001.) This was a nice roundtable-rectangletable discussion. Thank you K-10 for your guru-ness. After saying three stupid ones (our roommate ones, based on our significant others thus far: (1) must be extremely tall [since we are so small], (2) must be younger than us, and (3) must wear a pink shirt) I got to these:
1. Funny
2. Treats me like an equal (this is because Misty said, 'treats me like a lady', what the hell is that, IMHO, I mean, really)
3. Not stupid (which Kristin translated into 'intelligent')

I think those are good, don't you? Nevertheless, an interesting point made by Misters and I...a 'lady' or an equal? YOU BE THE JUDGE!!!

OK anyway the point is, it was a great weekend, I have good times ahead, and I have to get some sleep now so I can do some good work on the job. YEAH. Hope all is well and all apologies for the horrible lack of updates. I know, you're relieved. And to that I have this to say...DEATH SKULL GARTER!! Ciao.
