"You're kind of loud for an intern...interns should be seen and not heard."---Chad? I think is his name, 6/4/03, to 'the intern', meaning me...GREAT...day three and already I'm found out...

"Don't worry, whoever I marry will be incredibly interesting...so...what, you're conceited about yourself, I am conceited about the man I am going to marry...whoever THAT is!"---Jenny, 6/6/03...she called because of this (as she said): "I'm so BORED I'm so BORED I'm so BORED BORED BORED!"...haha

Who's That Girl?

time 3:26 pm feeling hungry reading The Great Gatsby, I WILL read this book again! wearing other $3 shirt, LEIs music DOS (Supreme Beings of Leisure) and J's R&J CD ready for gah, the end of the Internet, believe it or not next catch up on emails, catch up on sleep!

I LOVE MY JOB. I am so happy. I could be there forever. It is only Week One though, so cut me a break if I turn out to be wrong.

For those who do not know what I am doing (or, rather, cannot remember) this summer, I am working as a graphic arts intern at the Pleasant Company here in Madison (well, Middleton) in their Marketing Communications department. I am supposedly working on the catalogue, but we'll see how everything shakes out. Um, ALSO in case you do not remember, I LOVE this company so to be able to work for them is amazing. I always said I thought advertising (and thus most of graphic design, oh the irony that it is my major) was evil, but when you actually believe in what you are selling and doing...it makes a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE.

I spent most of spring semester believing that all the crap my teachers kept feeding us about 'branding' and products and so on was just that, crap, so to be somewhere where these terms are actually used and USEFUL is very heartening. Foolish as usual (the arrogance of being a Mason is never endearing). Things that we do in school are actually important! People actually DO have multiple stages of a finished piece! It is stunning when my cynicism is shot down.

The woman I work under is great, she is sarcastic and insane at the same time. Most everyone is very, very friendly, I feel like I have been working there forever, which is not something I am normally fortunate enough to experience in a new situation as I hate change. Also there is a girl there that was just an intern last spring and now has been hired full time...not just a good sign but also a good help, because she assures me that more interesting things are coming my way than just laminating fiascos! oh the pain...but I'll spare you that here because if I know you you've probably already heard about it, as you have my cool access card. ANYWAY know that my job is cool and I am happy. And as Katy said, DO NOT STEAL THE DOLLS!

Um, what else...basically it's just been getting into working again. The ever constant need to retrain my body for less sleep in the summer is back, this time though it's not quite like it used to be. Now I work all day (except Fridays is half), instead of morning gymnastics/noontime nap/afternoon teach/then out with friends until 4 am. That's okay. I am just as happy now. And we saw friends last night as I pretended to be a UW student on the Terrace. Matt is working for a biochemistry company, hurrah, talk about thousand dollar experiments gone wrong. Okay, just kidding ;) he is a good intern I am sure. Tomorrow Diana leaves for Seattle, and Jacob and Maggie will be there too! They are working for Microsoft, that is pretty damn cool except I prefer Apple. But still. At least D is coming here for Nationals.

NATIONALS!!! That's right, US Nats are in Milwaukee this June!!! And Missy, Diana and I are going to see them!! YES YES YES. I figure, I spent $100 last year to see Garbage, DMB, and Travis, and went to no concerts this year, so I can afford Nationals tickets (my logic=extremely skewed I know). YEAH BABY. I only wish Tasha and Chellsie were competing. Worlds is going to be so messed up!

The other highlight to my day so far, besides Max, Amy and I commiserating over my graveyard of poster wreckage, has been talking to Jenny. You see, she has to study for her tests now but since it's so boring to study she keeps calling people in the US (not random people, mind you, though it's pretty strange) to entertain here. JENNY! You're in frickin' SPAIN! Once her test is over though she'll travel, maybe around Spain or back to Italy. So DO NOT feel badly for her.

OK, no more of my nonsense! Have a nice weekend everyone, hope all is well! Happy 21st BJA :)
