"Lexi, we have to go now. Don't ask any questions, just follow me."---Matt, 6/7/03, to me about the bats...but SOUNDED more like a nuclear bomb threat or something!!

" 'A new intern'...there. That's what we need."---Chad (some guy at work), 6/9/03

"Things that are important to nine-year-old girls: Birthdays. Friends. Sleepovers. Parties. ..."---on a poster at work, to remind us of our audience...guess I'm a nine-year-old girl in some regards then, huh?

Hurricane Elaine

time 8:48 pm feeling good! reading Second Helpings, yeah sarcastic Jessica Darlings wearing pajamas, I'm a freak music DOS (Supreme Beings of Leisure), among other things ready for another fun day! next reading time

Wow. Today has been DZ Disaster Zone in every which way. Well, I guess not in important ways, but if you look at it from a materialistic standpoint, I was definitely the path of destruction, Hurricane Lexi, today (somewhat like I was last week with the laminator, heh).

So I turn on my blowdryer this morning (I know, I'm against that in summer, but I'm trying to look nice for the job here) and it starts smoking. Curious, I turn it towards me only to have it BURST INTO FLAMES!! Holy shit. That was pretty dang scary. So whatever, ate breakfast in the smell of smoke. Then knocked over some plates as I was doing dishes. Note that normally I am a very poised, nonclumsy person, or at least outside of a gymnastics setting.

So Matt tells me to be careful on my drive, since I seem accident-prone today. Sure enough, within two seconds of getting on the Beltline, this woman tries to merge INTO me, finally realizing when within one inch of my car that this is not a good idea. THANK GOD FOR THAT. Whew.

I get to work, do some work and some non, because they are still finding things for me to do, of course. Dangit. Finally Amy gives me some file to find and put on a Zip disk. Good. I find the file and a Zip and stick it in. Nothing. No Zip comes up on the screen. I restart, hoping this will knock it out. Still nothing. Call computer help, for some reason they think I am working for Fisher Price (another of Mattel's things, remember, my company is owned by Mattel) in Cali. WTF? with that man? Hence of course, no computer help all day, plus I don't know how to use the phone really, so who knows if they did try to call or whatever. So now I have a useless Zip stuck in my computer. Giddyup.

Um, okay, I think that was it if I recall correctly. Other than that it's been a great day. Mondays are always way better than I think they will be, I like getting my week going. Today I worked a lot on the standalone little girl (or whatever they call it) catalog. That was fun. I love Bitty Bear (see, nine-year-old girl, rather, THREE-year-old girl). I also had to do some design work. That was scary. I prefer to be doing anonymous laminating, it keeps me from having to rely on my 'skills' (meaning lack thereof). OH WELL. I guess I'll have to own up to my career SOMETIME. I also got to shut down this Chad guy again. It is just hard to keep it in. I consider it my duty to put difficult people in their place. Riiight...like we haven't heard THAT before.

I also had a nice weekend, let's see if I can remember it. OH YEAH Friday I fell asleep at NINE PM. YES THAT IS CORRECT. NINE frickin' o'clock in the evening. Not even double digits here! Freak!! I was just beat from the week I guess, still getting used to it. They have these quote things up at work, they change every week I guess, and one of them this week says 'drink coffee. you can sleep when you die.' Not sure if I agree with the first part, as I am still wary of caffeine, but regardless. OK so that was pathetic. Saturday was a beautiful day and lasted a long time, I can't really remember what made it nice though. In the evening we saw Finding Nemo, I am very lucky that Matt appreciates these childlike, computer-goddess-made films, and Katy does too, else I'd be a very lonely moviegoer. Nemo himself was annoying, but it was a great movie. I go just to see the animation. YOU should go just to see the blue fish (Ellen DeGeneres). It was pretty funny.

Then friends came over, Jacob included! He had to fly back from Microsoft for Eva's graduation for the weekend. Now him and Maggie are both gone, damn, we are losing friends fast. Sad. Anyway that was a fun night, the only bad part happened when Matt woke me up and said the above quote, making me expect the worst when in fact it turned out to be a bat (not that THAT'S cool, but...). This led to an hourlong bat chase, thankfully I avoided this (thanks guys). Kelly would appreciate it though. And Friday (backtracking) I got to see Brittany!! She is home all summer, yeah baby. And her mom was there too so that was nice. Even if I never talk to her it is nice to keep old ties.

OK so I am just rambling now. What else. Matt was carded for the first time on Sunday. Apparently he looks like he's over 30. I just don't see it. Couple this with the fact that most people think I am 16 and you've got trouble. Hah.

Well just had to share about my destructive day. Hope everyone is enjoying their summers and spelling/typing better than Jenny is. ('h!')
