"Oh to be young again, god dang it!!" –'Coach', today in class as we were doing hurdling exercises
September 15, 2003
time 10: 49 am feeling tired but content reading Cat's Cradle...OK not really, stupid school gets in the way! wearing TX shirt, black pants music the $4 CD I got from Carrie's daughter ready for a job or no job? HMMM... next Flash
"/ you're the swinger who brings me doubt..." Okay, not really, but I have to give credit where credit's due somewhat. So yeah, I ran a fever this weekend and spent most of it sleeping it off (I know! a fever...who gets fevers anymore...anyway); thankfully (or not so thankfully, depending on if you're him and you had to devote your weekend of visiting to caretaking!) Matt was here to take care of this sudden strange sickness and stop my insane OCD tendencies from taking over. It kind of sucked that I messed up our weekend somewhat, but I would say we had a fine time regardless, eh?
Okay, well, Alyssa is making lunch here and it is very distracting to me, so I will try to be chronological here but no guarantees. So first of all last week was fun, I got through my fright of GD4 and it ended up being a good time. Wednesday we had to share our little 'test' results with everyone and that was really funny. My school is so weird in that we know each other rather well, almost too well, because our classes are so small.
OK GET THIS. So I was just talking to Alyssa about my track and field 'Coach'. Anyway so his name is Roy (Griak) (still with the parentheses). Yeah! The real guy that the meet is named after! So we want to know why he's so important, right, so we go to look it up on gophersports.com. Yeah. If you go there, check out men's sports, click on "outdoor track and field", you'll get to (well, at the moment anyway) this page about these guys named Adam Steele and Mitch Potter (link is here, probably won't work). Apparently, they were in the World Championships in Paris this year, and Adam is the National champion in the 400m! And now they're planning on Athens 2004! Now, WTF is this you are saying. Who the hell cares?! Well Mr. Steele was in one of my Kines classes last spring, he would make jokes about Willie with me during class, and he seemed like such a slacker type kook! And we'd talk about Athens in that class and whatever, but only as a sport organization/disorganization, NOT about anyone in the class GOING. Well apparently he is pretty damn talented, huh! I had no idea. Anyway so that was pretty cool (obviously, as it warrants this much in the update). I would never have guessed.
OK back on track. So I got over my fears of GD4, at least for the time being. Class is cancelled today, we'll see where I can go with it on Wednesday. Practice has been sucking, I should be working harder. It's been fun, don't get me wrong, but I want to be good, not sucky. Anyway. And track and field is so damn funny. That class is awesome. 'Coach' (Roy) is hilarious, with his talk of 'peach fuzz' and 'little duffers' and 'chop chop sweetie!' He kept calling me 'Texas' today in class, as in, 'good work Texas!' because we were doing hurdling drills or something. Hah. This class isn't about just track and field, he said, this class is about how to be a good person! And how to crack us up. Even if he plays with guns (I guess you're supposed to, anyway, in track and field. Not like I would remember).
Wednesday was SECRETS REVEALED night, as in, Adam taunted us about Susan's secret! Bastard!!! Thus we had to try our best to get it out, still we know not what it is. Damn. I thought I was going to die from Alyssa's insanity. Yeah what else, oh yeah, Thursday we went out and courtesy Anna had a very inappopriate discussion (Kristin, Amber, Anna, Sarah and I). Surprise surprise! And Friday was again the Flash fun with Brad, now let me tell you, nobody has any idea what in the hell is going on in that class, I mean seriously! We are going too damn fast! I'm okay with it, because I recognize this fact, plus I employ my backwards-learning so I REALLY have no idea what's going on, but still. Whatever. I had to bring a flashlight ("do you have a light that is shaped like a flash...light?" –cousins) to beat it out of Susan, alas, she did not give one peep as to what the secret is and instead I attracted the wrong kind of attention via said flashlight. OH WELL! You pay for what you get.
Friday after class I was then surprised by Matt's early arrival!! He skipped out of Folklore to see ME. I was pretty lucky :) thanks Matt. I had thought he might do something like that because that's what I used to do, but still, a nice afternoon gift. Friday night after dinner out with everyone we went out with Sarah, Anna, and Adam. WHOA. That's what I have to say about that. It is fantastic to have Sarah and Anna back, let me say that, and we were out of control!! As could be told by our posts. "Christen our map! christen our map!" OH GOD...We also called Sarah Ke (well, Adam did) in New Zealand three times. And Amber. It was an awesome night.
And then fever day on Saturday! I was so mad because I am not one to get hung over as my stupid anatomy-trained mind persists in drinking water throughout any night I drink, so when I felt like shit on Saturday I was less than pleased. Later we discovered that this was due to fever so I am a little bit grateful (but not a lot, because it was not that fun to be ill). Anyway so it ended up being a nice, quiet day with Matt as my caretaker. My mom was happy that he was here (as was I, duh!). I already went through this though so you get it.
Then Sunday, blah. No one likes Sundays. The Packers did win though so apparently that made Matt happy, and then the Vikings won too so this made my friends happy. This I suppose is the only reason I might care. And I had to say goodbye! :( But look at how fast these two weeks went, time is going to fly.
I got ~25 hours of sleep for two nights of the weekend and ~25 for five nights of the week, so I am out of whack. I am going to fix this and live normally (or attempt) from henceforth. 'Twas not worth the feverishness (if that's what it was). ANYWAY it was a good weekend and I was a lucky girl in many ways.
Holy shit this is the longest update ever!!! I was going to comment more on the approaching birthday but alas. I will say this: I am ready to be 22!! I am sick of 21!! Yeah, like one day passing is going to change my life or something, but whatever. I remember at the end of being 18 I was so ready for it to be gone! The year was confusing and irritating and full of acting out on 'shoulds'. When 19 came, I said to myself, I am going to be different! I am not going to act on 'shoulds'! And, actually, I did. I got a lot out of that resolution. 22 is only 12 days away, but perhaps some sort of epiphany like that will come over me and get this 21 out the door safe and sound and dead and gone!
Now if you didn't think I was crazy before, you will now. I am going to round up some sustenance, have a great day. Be happy to be young!
